Minivans powered by alternative energy sources may still sound like a thing of the future, but Chrysler is pushing forward to make them a reality. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Chrysler has been delivering Town & Country plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) around the country.
Three demonstration-fleet plug-in hybrid minivans were delivered to the City of Yuma, AZ. With temperatures that often exceed 104 degrees during the summer, Yuma is a perfect place to push the Town & Country plug-in hybrid in excessive heat.
In Charlotte, NC, Chrysler delivered eight demonstration-fleet Town & Country plug-in hybrid minivans to Duke Energy as part of an ongoing two-year study of technology in a minivan application. By committing to ultimately transition its company cars to all-electric or PHEVs, Duke Energy makes the perfect partner with which to test the PHEVs.
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) – the sixth-largest community owned electric service provider – received three Chrysler Town & Country PHEVs to evaluate city drive cycles, thermal and charging performance, and perform other real-world tests.
And finally, in Chrysler’s backyard – the City of Auburn Hills, MI – four PHEV Chrysler Town & Country minivans were delivered for testing purposes to evaluate city and highway driving. The City of Auburn Hills is a leader in developing an electric vehicle infrastructure to facilitate the installation of electric vehicle charging stations.
