Looking Forward to a Good Book

When it comes to literacy in children, more access to books leads to more reading, and more reading leads to better writing, spelling, grammar and a larger vocabulary. Oftentimes, though, children who live in low-income neighborhoods tend to have little access to reading material in their public libraries, in their schools and at home.

The Chrysler Brand is helping to change that for kids in Detroit. In an effort to help make books more accessible, we’ve teamed up with United Way for Southeastern Michigan to put 148,500 books in the hands of Detroit’s youth this summer.

“Learning doesn’t stop when school lets out and thanks to support from the Chrysler book drive, we can help ensure that more kids have access to reading materials even when class isn’t in session. It’s a winning combination and corporate social responsibility at its best,” said Sarah Grutza, Corporate Relations Director at United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

UW3“Donating these books is a part of Chrysler brand’s mission to drive early education,” said Saad Chehab, President and CEO – Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “We hope these books inspire children’s imaginations and helps to provide them with some of the necessary tools they’ll need to achieve a limitless future”
