Chrysler’s Imported From Detroit™ trademark continues to inspire everyone who gets knocked down to get back up, to persevere even when it looks bleak, and to help others with that indefatigable Detroit Spirit. Chrysler is proud to partner with local organizations to help in their dedication to solving problems and lifting up the community. This month, we’re taking a look at one of our Imported From Detroit partners, Habitat For Humanity Detroit.
Habitat for Humanity Detroit, founded in 1986 by Fred and Ellen Schippert, is the Detroit affiliate of the incredible Habitat for Humanity International organization. The organization has an expressed aim to “eliminate substandard housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action,” a mission that Chrysler is honored to support.
Here’s how Habitat Detroit works:
- Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner (partner) families.
- Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of other Habitat family partners.
- Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with a 0% mortgage that Habitat manages.
- The home owners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to support building still more Habitat houses.
Through our partnership with Habitat Detroit, we’re helping families that deserve a new outlook; families that have seen hard times and are poised to get through them.
When you buy Imported From Detroit merchandise, a portion of the proceeds goes directly to Habitat for Humanity Detroit.
