Real People, Real Stories – Two More Stories, a Generation in the Making

Rounding out a great week of reader-submitted stories, we have these two from a couple of long-term, die-hard Chrysler fans. Before we get to them, however, we want to take a moment to thank everybody who has contributed in recent months to the Real People, Real Stories series. We’ve enjoyed reading your submissions, and we hope that more continue to roll in.

Thanks, enjoy, and have a great weekend!

Story 1

I have had Chryslers since 1950, and each has had more than 100,000 miles. Chrysler products were purchased in 1950, 1954, 1958, 1963, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1973, 1975, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1995, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011. The most mileage was on a 1979 New Yorker with 225,000; my 1975 Newport had 195,000. The 1995 and 1999 Jeeps each had 165,000 miles when traded. My 2005 300 Limited had 122,000 when traded and still had the original brakes and shocks. My 2006 had 100,000 when I traded for the 2011 Jeep. The 2010 300 C is an excellent road car that gave 29.1 overall miles per gallon on a 5,000 mile trip to Portland, Oregon, with many miles at speeds above 80 MPH. The best part of my story is that all of my purchases since 1963 have been from Roanoke Motors of Roanoke, Illinois. Needless to say we are satisfied with our dealer.

Story 2

My father was a Chrysler dealer in Barstow, California, from 1962 until his retirement in 1989. My cousin George Soutar and his family own the dealerships now. I had the good fortune to drive everything made during that time, including a 1966 Dodge Charger with the 426 HEMI, Barracudas with the 440 six pack, and Superbirds with two 4-barrel carbs and six packs. The lineup was fantastic and fun to drive.

Today I own a 2001 PT CRUISER that I special ordered and waited for eleven months to arrive. I watched the progress of the order through delivery to the dealership and took delivery that very afternoon. It has been one of my best purchases. I have not had a single problem, and it now has 72,300 miles. I have really enjoyed all of my Chrysler products that I have owned or drove as demonstrators.
